Valpolicella
Welcome to Valpolicella! Just a short drive from Verona, this region is famous for its rolling vineyard-covered hills, historic villages, and world-class wines, especially the rich and powerful Amarone. Valpolicella has been making wine since Roman times. The name itself likely comes from Latin and Greek roots meaning "valley of many cellars." Over the centuries, winemakers developed the appassimento method, which involves drying grapes before fermentation to concentrate flavor and power. This technique gave birth to Amarone, now one of Italy's most celebrated red wines.
To help you explore, we've divided the area into two main zones: Valpolicella Classica (the traditional heartland) and Eastern Valpolicella (home to innovation and some of the most collectible wines). Here's everything you need to know to enjoy the best of both.
